Mastership is within your grasp.

Build on the knowledge you gained in Fundamentals and take your troubleshooting skills to the next level with the Advanced Schematic Analysis and Troubleshooting (ASAT) course.

This course delves deeply into sophisticated and esoteric appliance circuit troubleshooting techniques. What you’ll learn:

  • how to use timing charts together with the schematic to troubleshoot problems
  • how to use Ohm’s Law as a powerful troubleshooting tool to give you a clear understanding of how a circuit works
  • how to troubleshoot deceptive and tricky open neutral problems
  • how to troubleshoot appliances with control boards, including multiple control boards and microprocessor boards
  •
Perhaps best of all: You will hone your newly-learned schematic reading and troubleshooting skills with a challenging series of schematic lab exercises where you’re given a tech sheet and schematic and then asked a series of quiz questions about them. This is where it will really start to click for you.

Still wondering if you need this course?

On newer electronic appliances, reading the schematic is an essential, non-optional skill. But it’s not enough by itself. You have to be able to read the schematic in context with the technology you’re dealing with. For example, in appliances with multiple control boards, you need to understand how to communicate with the microprocessor (main) board and how the main board and sub-boards are communicating with each other. This is the brave new world of digital communications fully entering the appliance world and the ASAT course explains all this to you through a series of easy-to-follow screencasts.

IMPORTANT! Prerequisite: You are expected to already have solid training in basic electricity, circuits, and troubleshooting such as we teach in the Fundamentals of Appliance Repair course. Generally speaking, work experience alone doesn’t give you the background you need for ASAT. Please check the lessons taught in the Fundamentals course (click that link to see them) before making the decision to enroll in ASAT. Contact us if you have any questions about this!
